Mmmm wine. Mmmm chocolate. I wanted to make brownie cupcakes this week but it's too freakin' hot to turn on the oven. Boooo. But maybe if I drank some wine I wouldn't mind the heat so much...

Haha yea man! A chocolate party! Do you know that place called Soma in Distillery district which sells and serves chocolate and coffee? It's sooooo freaking amazing. I would just live there if it didn't leave me broke.

Wine, chocolate, and facilitating mischief are three of my favorite things too! And in that order, well actually its fun no matter what the order. I'd say it's pretty much the best combination of things ever and it always leads to an entertaining night.

Thursday 1pm with Zills!!

Hi Om-lai-la's.

Yesterday afternoon we played with some shiny, ringy, finger cymbal-ey things. We call them Zills... there are other names for them, like Zagats, Manjira, Manzira, Sunouj, Zangs, Sagats, Castanets (wooden ones). Here's a great link to some more in-depth info on Zills:

Actually, I don't know if links work here but we'll try.

In class we played with some basic rhythyms to use with Zills, including the most well known gallop-e… Continue

Monday Level 2 Breakdown

Taqsim Baladi dances have a strong folkloric flavour, and are built on a repeated rhythym which the Belly Dancer and drummer both riff on and within, working together and playing off each other's improvisational instincts to create a range of colours and textures within the dance. Taqsim Baladis begin with a strong and subtle inner story within the dancer's body, whic… Continue
