I am so happy! So instead of working on my group presentation for my class at school I am going to write this blog! hahahaha. I'll try and keep it short though!
As most of you know I performed my baladi piece at FunkaBelly on November 8th. It was truly meant for the FunkaBelly audience, but its been interesting to see how different audiences in different atmospheres react to it. There is usually a loud round of applause and screaming at the end, but what happens during the performance is what I care about. I feed off the energy of the crowd as you could probably tell! LOL ;)
I took this piece to Hadia's Pro course in July when it was in its infancy...lol. And boy do I mean infancy! Basically 2 days before the show she took me aside and said that it wasn't anything like how it should be and that I should work on it and get help from my friends if I needed it. So I said I would. Of course, I went through a wide range of emotions, which my friends had to see and deal with...but thanks to them I still performed!
Hadia loved it and everyone else loved it. But I knew there was still work to be done. I was still bouncing a bit too much, and my arms were crap (my weakness). So I took the opportunity to dance in Siham's small fundraiser. I performed it again, and it went alot better, but I kept doing something stupid with my mouth, and could never figure out how to get that performance off the dvd so I just never posted it, but it was nice. Only super loud people in the audience during the performance of course were FunkaBelly All-stars! Thanks! ;) But there was good reception for it at the end. I just didn't feel quite comfortable in that environment.
Finally It came to the day of the Chocolate FunkaBelly. The second time I performed this piece I was a lot more concious of my arms, and had some cool things I did in it that I didn't do in the first performance. At FunkaBelly I was in my element to say the least! LOL I don't have any criticisms except that there were a few moments where I did things with my arms that I hadn't done in the past and to me they looked sloppy, so if I were to use that again I'd need to figure out how to do it so it actually looked good, and a couple little things that I was having a problem with while practicing, and the bow. I am so pathetic when it comes to bowing...must fix!
Anyways, I will be posting that recent performance soon! I'll be dancing the baladi again at my upcoming studio party!
Its called the 2nd Annual Winter Belly Dance Extravaganza! LOL To understand why it has that name you need to come to my party!
Jaene was suggesting that maybe the Om Laila Student Troupe would like to perfom at it.......any thoughts? Roula? Anyone? I'd like to have you guys perform....the Sultanettes may perform, so why not you guys!
Its on December 13th. Please let me know! :)
Ok so that wasn't so short...lol...oh well!
